A typical day as an nD consultant is not a regular 9-to-5 job. The hierarchy of the firm is family first, clients second, and the firm third. The firm is an outcome-focused organization and not process-driven. When given a task or project, there is an expectation that you do whatever is necessary to ‘get the job done.’ Sometimes this means putting in more than eight hours a day or even working weekends. You will, however, always be rewarded for your efforts and work ethic.
Here’s an example of a typical day you might experience as an nD consultant:
7:25 a.m.
I respond to an email from our client sponsor concerning project status.
8:45 a.m.
I drop the kids off at school and head to the client’s office.
9:30 a.m.
I arrive just in time to meet our client sponsor and go through some brief analytical findings on his requests from the day before.
12:00 p.m.
I grab some lunch from the client’s cafeteria and head back to the project (‘war’) room.
12:30 p.m.
I check the integrity of an associate’s analysis and go through the project plan with her.
3:00 p.m.
I leave client offices to go to the local nD office. I prepare a draft proposal for a potential client in response to an RFP (Request for Proposal).
5:45 p.m.
I check my calendar and go over my to-do’s for the remainder of the evening. I leave to meet my spouse for dinner.
9:00 p.m.
I put our kids to bed.
11:00 p.m.
I have finalized the draft proposal from earlier and send it to my nD proposal leader.
