I wake up early to get a head start on another busy day. While eating breakfast, I skim the daily news and check my emails. Since the client office is based outside of the city, I leave early to beat traffic.
I make it to the client's office before the rest of the team, and set up in the 'war room' they have set aside for us. Before anyone else shows up, I go over the task list from the day before to check the progress we have made. The team is up against a tight timeline and we need to ensure that the project doesn't fall off course.
After assessing the team's excellent progress, I outline the series of tasks for the day on the main whiteboard. As the team arrives and sets up alongside me, we discuss all of the major tasks for the day and talk about how we will go about accomplishing them. Then, the real work day starts.
We have a lot of data to analyze today to determine the market size for a potential new product we are helping the client design and develop, and the price that their market can bear. We just received a download of results from a market survey we conducted and need to develop the statistical methods we will use to extract insights.
Noon rolls around and the team has made significant headway, so I take them out for lunch. I enjoy having team lunches together because it helps everyone get better acquainted and builds cohesion in the group.
We have analyzed the data from earlier today and proceed to present the information in a PowerPoint report for our client. The client is excited to see the survey results supporting the case for this new product since he has an upcoming update presentation with his managers.
While the team moves ahead with the analyses for other modules of the project, I start working on a proposal for another client. A major biotechnology company just called one of the partners and asked us to help them start a competitive intelligence project to better understand their market and competitive environment. I'm responsible for designing the methodology and project plan for the partner to review.
The team has covered a lot of ground over the course of the day, and everyone packs up for the commute home. A few members of the team will grab dinner and drinks together to unwind, but I head off to volunteer with a not-for-profit I sit on the board of.
My fellow board members and I discuss our new strategy for the following year. We are going through a major evolution as a result of rapid growth. Everyone is enthusiastic and we have a stimulating brainstorming session.
The board meeting wraps up and I head home to wind down and get some sleep. It's been a great day
